Burberry Sheer Eye Shadow in Midnight Brown No 21: Review, Swatches and Comparisons

Burberry Sheer Eye Shadow in Midnight Brown (#21) is a must have for taupe lovers. It was released with 2011 Burberry Beauty Collection and has a cult status among other Burberry eye shadows.

The packaging is meal like with Burberry pattern on it. It has a mirror, an applicator and comes in a  black Burberry pattern velvet pouch. Even the Burberry pattern is embossed on the eyeshadow which is beautiful.

Although the name says Sheer Eye Shadow believe me it is not sheer at all. The shade has a complex taupe brown with exquisite shimmer.

Swatches

The color changes with different primers as well as without primer or wet or dry application. In these pictures I used Nars primer.

On my skin with dry application (#1) the color leans more towards a silvery light brown taupe  (more brown less taupe) with a hint of golden undertones. Wet application (#2) darkens the color which leans to warm and rich shimmery chocolate brown taupe. The metallic tone comes out more with wet application. Here are some more swatches for comparison of Chanel Gri Gri , Burberry Pale Barley   and Burberry Midnight Brown. As you can see Chanel Gri Gri has a more pinkish taupe whereas Pale Barley is more on the golden side. Both work great with Midnight Brown.

Application

You can use it all over he eye lid or to the crease with lighter taupe, beige or cream eyeshadows such as Chanel Gri Gri or Burberry Pale Barley. It is excellent to create a sophisticated smoky eye. With or without primer it does not crease on my oily eyelids. It is very finely milled providing a silky feel and a beautiful satin finish without fall out.

Ingredients

The shade is well pigmented. The texture is soft, buttery and very easy to blend. Paraben-free. It has talc. So of you are not a fan of talc, this palette may not be for you. Formula has corn starch, which is great in absorbing the oil and prevent the creasing.  High level of silicone (dimethicone) is probably why the shadows apply so buttery and smooth. Potassium sorbate is usually used as preservative.
