Chanel Le Vernis Vamp #18 ($27 for 0.44 fl. oz/ 13 ml) nail color actually has a story behind it. Vamp was created in 1994 by Dominique Moncourtois, who was Chanel’s makeup creation director at the time. Karl Lagerfeld asked Moncourtois for a nail polish that would show up in black and white pictures taken during his 1995 Spring/Summer Chanel Ready to wear collection. During the show to achieve the desired color, he used red polish and colored over it with a black marker. The inspiration for Vamp.
At the time Vamp changes the nail polish industry. Chanel’s introduction of dark edgy color Vamp inspired other colors in nail polish and foundation of new companies.
Uma Thurman wore Vamp in Pulp Fiction and Madonna in her Take a Bow video in 1994.
Today Vamp is still available from Chanel. Now there are similar colors to it but still Vamp is Vamp.
Chanel Le Vernis Vamp #18 is the founding stone of classic vamp colors from 90’s. The shade is a deep berry/maroon color with almost a blackened purple base. The finish is shiny with deep purple/red/maroon shade. The polish also has silver microshimmer, which provides depth and elegance.
Application is easy without any streaking. The pigmentation is strong and two coats is enough to achieve the desired look.
Vamp is quite durable. There is no chipping or peeling for 4 days. Although it is dark, it does not stain the nails and it is easy to remove.
