Forgot to apply sunscreen to…?

We talked about Sunscreen and UV 101,  SPF and PA in sunscreens and  about when to apply sunscreen before or after moisturizer in our previous articles. Although we generally apply sunscreen to our body and face , there are places we miss or forget.

Scalp and hairline:

Even during a cloudy day, the top of our head is the first place that gets hit by UV rays. The sensitive skin of our head as well as the hairline definitely needs protection from strong rays of the sun. So either apply sunscreen to  exposed parts of your scalp and hairline or wear a hat.

Lips:

Lips are always exposed to sunlight and UV.  To protect the lips from early aging due to sun exposure, please use lip products with UV protection. Given the fact that UV light has been shown to have a role in oral cancer, please show extra care to your lips and don’t forget to protect them [1].

Eye Lids:

Skin of eyelids is the thinnest in our body and thus require extra care (Click here). Use sunglasses with UV protection. Also use eye care products formulated with UV protection (SPF/PA).

Ears:

Sometimes we forget to apply sunscreen to our ears when applying to the face. To prevent , red burning blistery ears, please apply the sunscreen to the ears especially to the top where sun hits first.

Under Arms:

Lying and streching under the sun can expose our underarms to the sun. Apply sunscreen to the under and backside of your arms to prevent suburn.

Top and under the feet:

Walking around, getting in out of water, lying down… The feet are burning just as much as any part of the body. Apply a lot of sunscreen to the tops and under of the feet.

Sides of the bathing suit and under the straps:

The straps or sides of the cloting move around as we swim, laydown or move, which exposes the unprotected parts of the skin to the sun. Protect the skin by applying sunscreen under the bathing suit or straps.

Please always use a broad spectrum sunscreen and if you have skin problems please visit your lovely dermatologist.
