What to do for a quick pick me up for dull winter skin?

A beauty question from Aylin:        “Warmer days are here. My winter skin care routine is a little too much for my skin now. My skin started to look dull. What should I do?”dryskinfemale

Well, you are right. As days become warmer, our skin balance changes as well. Warmer days may mean for some of us, more sebum production which leads to dull looking skin with breakouts and blackheads. So let’s energize our face with a spring/summer facial routine. Don’t be discouraged when you change your facial products for  summer or spring , you will see the full effects after 4 to 6 weeks (Click here).dryskin

1- Use an exfoliator: You can use a fine sugar based exfoliator for your body to get rid of dead and dull skin. After exfoliation, follow up with a good moisurizer or natural oils. If you would like to capture more moisture, apply the oil all over your body before you leave the shower. For your face, do no use salts or sugar on your skin. Prefer milder exfoliants with jojoba beads or products specifically formulated for the face. If you are using products with AHA or retinol, please do not use them after exfoliation.

2- Use a good mask: Use a mask that has high vitamin content (i.e. Vitamin C) to rejuvenate your skin. If you have dry skin , prefer masks with ingredients that provide moisture (i.e. Sodium hyaluronate). For oily complexions choose masks with kaolin to absorb extra oil.

3- Clean your skin: Gel or cream ype cleansers are important for your skin to prevent breakous and dullness. Clean skin will absorb more moisurizing and anti-aging ingrediens in your toner, serum, moisturizer or night cream which will energize your skin faster.  After cleansing apply cold toner to finish the cleansing routine.

4-Apply daily moisurizer and night cream:   As the days get warmer, skin produces more sebum. So sometimes we skip the moisturizer. Wrong… Skipping the moisturizer will decrease the much needed moisture on your skin making it more dull and lifeless. Either use a gel like moisturizer a moisturizing serum. Never forget your sunscreen during the day. For night creams, you can thin it out a little. Take your cream and rub it between clean finger tips and apply. Wait for 5 mins so yous kin can absorb the cream. Remove excess cream by pressing a clean tissue on your face.cream

You can apply your daily moisturizer or night cream when your face is still damp after toner application. This will increase moisture retention on your skin.
