Diptyque is the producer of cult scents and candles that are out of this world. The Paris based Diptyque finally opened its doors at Buckhead, Atlanta.
If you are a fan of Diptyque, you should visit this lovely and exquisite shop. One can get lost sniffing all different scents and candles.
You can still find The Winter Landscapes Collection from Diptyque. The collection was released for the holiday season. It has 3 limited edition candles: Hiver (Winter), Épice (Spice) and Résine (Pine). The mini candles (2.4 oz) below are $34 each.
I purchased the full size candle of Essence of John Galliano. The packaging design of the box looks like the front page of an English daily newspaper written in gothic letters on a light cream background.
John Galliano loves Diptyque candles and has them during each runway show at the backstage. This candle was specifically designed for Galliano. Mr Galliano asked from Diptyque a warm, deep, sexy and mysterious fragrance. The perfumer for this scent is Olivia Giacobetti.
The scent is just phenomenal and beautiful. It is deep, dark, relaxing with a leathery and woody undertones. The leather undernotes are wild, smooth yet soft sprinkled with birch and sage. The iris note polishes essence of the leather. The woody notes are intertwined with leather bestowing a delicate yet sophisticated smoky and woody scent touched by the uplifting frankincense.
The scent of the candle has an incense accord but dried herbs, artemisia, sweet musk dabbed with vanilla provides a luxurious and comforting touch. Essence of John Galliano is not heavy or overcoying. It is a perfectly balanced warm and gourmand scent. It is like walking outside on a snowy day in a pine forest smelling firewood but only better.
I burn the candle 1.5-2 hours at any given time. I trim the wick with scissors so the flame doesn’t burn high. This also prolongs the life of the candle. The candle is made with a mixture of paraffin and vegetable wax. It comes with a little booklet about the history of Diptyque, how the candles are made and how they should be used.
The essence of John Galliano is one the most unique smelling candles in the Diptyque family that I have encountered. Other favorite of mine is Figuiere.
The full sized candle is $68 (6.5 oz/190 gr). There is also a room spray of Essence of John Galliano and is priced at $60 (150ml). You can find them at Diptyque boutiques and counters.
