Tom Ford Patent Finish Lip Colors-Orchid Fatale, Ravageur, Red Corset

Tom Ford released Patent Finish Lip Color ($52.00 for 0.07 oz.) series with Spring 2016 collection. Tom Ford defines Patent Finish Lip Color as combining a lip stain with an ultra glossy finish.  Before we go into the shades, texture, formula and ingredients, let’s start with the packaging.

The packaging is unique to Tom Ford. It is a click style pen with a soft, furry (almost cat paw looking and you will see why, scroll down) applicator. You have to click a lot to take the lip color out on the cushioned applicator. Once it is out you are good to go. Once the color is on the applicator, it looks like a cat paw print. It is super cute.

Ravageur on the Applicator

A beautiful creamy fire engine red. It is vibrant and energetic.

Orchid Fatale on Applicator

Looks like a dark fuchsia red on the applicator but on the lips it is completely different. It is very pigmented and has golden shimmers.

Red Corset on the Applicator

A darker, deeper red compared to Ravageur. Very subtle microshimmers are visible on the applicator.

Formula, Application and Texture

The texture of Patent Lip Colors is intense without being heavy or sticky. At first it feels cooling with a slight vanilla scent, formula is watery but not runny, yet it adheres on the lips quickly. The application feels soft and nice due to the formula and sponge applicator.

The idea is a uber glossy lacquered lip with a patent shine that dries down to a stained look.  It was a little hard to precisely contour the lips due to the furry applicator. That is why I matched with 2 fantastic lip pencils and did the TF Patent Finish Lip Colors look completed after that. But that is down below.

Let’s continue with the application/stay power: It was quite impressive. The glossiness lasts around 5-6 hours given the fact that I constantly drink water or coffee during the day. It does not budge or move into lip creases. After 6-7 hours it looked more like a lip stain with even finish. It does not dry lips and feels comfortable.Texture on the lips feels luxurious and soft. After applying with lip pencil, Patent Finish Lip Colors have the glamour of old Hollywood.

Shades, swatches, and Matching Lip Pencils

I cannot wear red lipstick. It either looks too pink or orange on me. Dark lipsticks, I shied away from long time ago but Tom Ford Patent Finish Lip Colors changed all that. These ones just look so perfect on my lips.

Tom Ford Ravageur Patent Finish Lip Color

Beautiful, creamy fire engine red. It has very subtle gold microshimmers that gives depth to the shade. Light application without getting more color on the applicator provides a stained look whereas two swipes of full color has complete/opaque coverage. The application is smooth and even without feeling heavy or sticky. Ravageur lasted for 6 hours and turned into a stain and lasted for another 4 hours. Even you wipe it off it looks like you still have stained lips.

Tom Ford Red Corset Patent Finish Lip Color

Although it has a darker and plummier shade than Ravageur on the applicator, it completely looked red on my lips. It has subtle golden microshimmers and the application was quite easy. Glossiness lasted for 6 hours and lip stain look for another 4 hours. Perfect red if you have yellow undertones in your skin.

Tom Ford Orchid Fatale Patent Finish Lip Color

It looks very blackened burgundy on the applicator but on my lips it the shade turned to a beautiful berry red with blue undertones, which is perfect if you have yellow undertones in your skin like me. Orchid Fatale is darker than Ravageur and Red Corset.

The perfect lip pencils for these ones are:

Sisley Paris Phyto-Levres Perfect Lipliner in Ruby worked perfectly with Ravageur and Red Corset. These Patent Finish Lip Colors blended perfectly with Sisley Lip pencil in Ruby and my lips looked beautifully contoured. There weren’t any dupes for lip pencil and Patent Lip Color combination (and individually for that matter).

Kevin Aucoin The Fresh Tone Lip Pencil in Bloodroses : Tom Ford Patent Lip Color in Orchid Fatale was really hard to match with any of the lip pencils in Neiman Marcus. Yes, we walked around trying to match a lip pencil from nearly all brands in the store. Finally, Kevin Aucoin Lip Pencil in Bloodroses was the perfect match to Tom Ford Orchid Fatale. Beautiful blending and exquisite contouring. Again, no any dupes for lip pencil and Patent Finish Lip Color combination (and individually for that matter).

Ingredients

It is highly pigmented. You may experience a temporary cooling feeling during first application due to Alcohol Denat. Actually, cooling feeling is nice.

Overall, I highly recommend these Patent Finish Lip Colors especially if you are hesitant about wearing dark shades. They are beautiful, high quality and lasts forever. You will get more bang for your buck with these ones.
